More Information:

Preparedness: If your place of worship needs assistance developing an emergency response plan, please contact the ECCT Diocesan Disaster Coordinator, Mike Corey. Mike is available to meet with clergy and vestries to discuss the steps to developing a plan that meets your worship community’s needs.

  • The first step will be downloading and reviewing the plan template which is available in the File Repository under Disaster Response.

Response: Parishes have resources they can make available in the wake of a disaster, and many do, offering use of kitchens, generators, large parking lots, and more. During the emergency plan development process we can help you determine what resources you have, how to make them available, and what training or certifications you may need to obtain.

Recovery: Episcopal Relief & Development US Disaster Program helps communities (beyond individual congregations) with long-term recovery after a disaster. Contact ECCT's Diocesan Disaster Coordinator, Mike Corey if your community has been impacted and you would like to discuss Episcopal Relief & Development involvement and possible grants. They can also help congregations in Connecticut arrange mission trips to other places in the U.S. to assist with ongoing recovery work.

Episcopal Asset Map: Created by Episcopal Relief & Development (U.S. Disaster Program) and Office of Advocacy and Social Justice of The Episcopal Church, will, when completed, show all the churches and other facilities across The Episcopal Church, and provide searchable information about their ministries - and for disaster response, a non-public list of assets for response. ECCT's map is at ecct.episcopalassetmap.org. Parishes should click on their church and complete the survey. There is a worksheet with the survey questions in the Disaster Response folder, here.

Disaster and Public Safety Chaplaincy: Many members of the Disaster Response Ministry Network have been trained and respond as disaster chaplains. If you would like more information on disaster chaplaincy training please contact the Diocesan Disaster Coordinator. In day to day work, some of our members serve as public safety chaplains for police, fire and emergency medical services. If you are involved in this ministry we would love to welcome you to our network.

SEPTEMBER IS DISASTER PREPAREDNESS MONTH: Resources for Disaster Preparedness Month for congregations from Episcopal Relief & Development (ads/bulletin inserts). (Note: ERD intentionally left a blank space in the bottom left corner so you can add you contact information or diocesan website or any other local information that you think would be helpful. The easiest way to do that is to place the ad into Word and then just type on that blank space directly.)
