Speaking Truth To Power

As a group of clergy in Connecticut, we have, over the past several years, dedicated our annual gathering to matters of particular spiritual and cultural urgency.

One of the great challenges of our time, however, is fostering and strengthening the ways in which we speak the truth to power. As clergy, how can we harness our authority to speak the truth at the civic level of the town square, while also grappling with St. Paul’s call to speak the truth in love to those whom we serve?

We are delighted to share that The Rev. Canon Mpho Tutu Van Furth will be joining us as we engage in this work. The Rev.Canon Mpho Tuto Van Furth, in her bio describes herself as “a priest, a writer, a wife, mother, an artist, a theologian, and a public speaker.” I am a priest, a writer, a wife, a mother, an artist, a theologian, and a public speaker.” She is also the daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, has authored two books with him- Made for Goodness, and The Book of Forgiving.

In her own life and work, Canon Van Furth has courageously spoken her truth and empowers others to do the same.

We are also delighted to share that our chaplain will be The Rev. Leng Lim.Leng was a guest speaker at ECCT Convention in 2015 and has graciously accepted an invitation to walk with us through this conference.
