Bishops Call for Prayers in the Wake of Charleston Church Shooting
Once again we have witnessed the horrific results of gun violence in our nation. Last night a, yet unidentified, gunman entered the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina and shot and killed nine innocent people. The fact that the man who did the shooting is white and all the victims were African-American leads us to assume that this is a hate crime motivated by racism. Such death and destruction is utterly sinful and must be decried in the strongest of terms.

The sites include Capital Community College, Hartford Hospital, Hartford Public Library, and the Manna Feeding Program housed at Christ Church Cathedral. Organizers chose these to recognize them as places that care for, support, and empower people, making a positive impact on the city, and as a way of giving thanks for their good work.
“By visiting these places with our prayer and our presence we both affirm their work, and see possible partnerships and collaboration with those who are about the work of God’s mission, sharing God’s love,” said Bishop Laura J. Ahrens of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut, in a letter to clergy.
