About parishes and worshiping communities in ECCT

In 2017, the Bishops and Canons of ECCT wrestled with creating a working definition of a parish or worshiping community in ECCT. This was later brought to various ECCT leadership groups for discussion and refinement. A parish is understood as:

1. A community of theological imagination
Where we talk about God, individually and corporately, discovering together what God is up to and how we can join that

2. Fed by Word and Sacrament
Where we regularly hear Holy Scripture and the Eucharist is celebrated weekly as the principal worship

3. Forming disciples and apostles in God's mission
Where we form disciples in God's mission, and send them out as apostles

4. Connected to the wider Body of Christ.
Where we are connected to one another through participation in events and councils locally, in Regions, across ECCT, The Episcopal Church, and beyond
