Annual Convention 2019
You are invited to attend the 235th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, CT. Please note that this year’s Convention will be on Saturday and Sunday, and will include an ECCT-wide worship service on Sunday morning.
As a part of this year’s Convention, we are continuing to try on the new model for conducting our business together, creating space for prayer and the worship of God, meaningful conversation, and the opportunity for generative work that will help us faithfully live into our work in this new missional age. This packet contains more details about this new process, as well as other important information about Convention. All future information about Convention will be communicated electronically via our Convention eNewsletters, which you can sign up for using the button below.

Sunday: ECCT-Wide Worship
Registration for Sunday is free, but separate from your Convention Registration!
Convention continues on Sunday with a gathered worship service for Episcopalians all over our state at 11:00 a.m. Come worship with your sisters and brothers across Connecticut at the Connecticut Convention Center, and hear the Good News as proclaimed the Rt. Rev. Barbara Harris, the first woman to be consecrated a bishop in the Anglican Communion. Our venue this year allows us the unique opportunity to hold a worship service where all are welcome to attend and take part in our sacramental life.
Prior to worship, there will be a light breakfast offered at the Convention Center for all attendees, an excellent opportunity to connect with your fellow Episcopalians from around the state.
Registration for Sunday is free but requires separate registration from your Convention registration. Anyone who wishes to participate in worship at this year's Annual Convention needs to reserve a spot for themselves using the link below.
We encourage each parish to send at least 12 members to our gathered worship on Sunday. In addition, information is available for clergy who wish to organize lay-led Morning Prayer at their parish for those not attending.
We are inviting parishes to identify high school age youth to send to Convention as a part of our new youth presence at Convention. We have a great weekend planned with opportunities to participate in the work of Convention, spend time socializing and connecting with other youth from around our church, and kick back and relax at a lock-in at St. Monica’s, Hartford. The cost for a youth attendees is $30 and registration will close by October 22, 2019.
Submit a Question for convention
As a part of the process for Convention, you are encouraged to consider a question that you would like the Convention to work on together in lieu of a more traditional resolution. You can learn more about this process by referring to the enclosed document, “Convention’s New Look.” A form to submit a question for consideration is available on the Annual Convention page of our website.
We will continue to accept duly submitted resolutions that follow the format and guidelines found on the Annual Convention page of the website. All resolutions must be received by the Secretary of Convention before the deadline of September 14, 2019. If you are thinking of a resolution, you are encouraged to consider whether you might submit it instead as a question, as per the details above. Questions considered by Convention will receive far more extensive conversation and exploration than is currently possible with resolutions.
Book a Room
We have negotiated a discounted room rate with the Hartford Marriott for this year's Annual Convention of $139/night. We encourage you to reserve the room before October 4, 2019 to ensure a space. You may register online to receive the group rate by using the link below, or by calling 866-373-9806 and mentioning that you are with the Episcopal Church in Connecticut group.
Saturday Evening Program
Following our business session on Saturday evening, Convention will re-convene at our Cathedral for Evensong and to commemorate our Cathedral’s centennial anniversary. A reception will be hosted at the Cathedral House with food, music, and dancing. This event is free, and pre-registration is required. Parking is available at the MAT Garage (next door to Hartford Stage). Our Cathedral will validate parking tickets.
Parish Delegates to Convention
All parishes must report their elected lay delegates to the Secretary of Convention so that we can ensure that they received timely information, updates pertinent to their participation, and receive invitations to participate in pre-convention voting on topics for breakout conversations at Convention. We collect delegate and alternate reports through the ECCT Parish Survey. If you have previously completed the survey, and you have double-checked that the information your reported for your delegates and alternates is still accurate, then no further action is needed. If you have not yet filled out the Parish Survey, please do so before June 15, 2019. If you need assistance accessing or completing the Parish Survey, please contact Matt Handi at the Commons for help (203-639-3501 x107, firstname.lastname@example.org).
