237th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut
Dear Siblings in Christ, After much prayer, research, thought, and discussion, your Convention Planning Team has made the difficult decision to move our Annual Convention to an online format this year. Given the rigors of the past year and a half and the fatigue many in our community are experiencing with online events, we are condensing the schedule to one day, Saturday, October 23, focusing on the essentials.
This year’s convention will take place in the format of a Zoom webinar. Although it will be the same format as last year’s convention, we are simplifying the experience for our voting members. The webinar will be open only to voting members of convention who register (lay delegates, canonically resident clergy, members of the Mission Council, Standing Committee, and General Convention delegation), with parliamentary voting happening in the webinar using the poll feature. Elections will happen on Simply Voting, as we have done in years past. All other participants are invited to join us via livestream on ECCT’s YouTube channel. This will allow non-voting members of Convention to contribute questions and comments via the chat function. Please note: While no account is needed to watch the livestream, YouTube requires an account in order to post in the chat of a livestream. Participants are encouraged to log in or create an account ahead of time. Every voting member will need their own device with the capability of logging into Zoom—either a smart phone, tablet, or computer—as well as a stable internet connection. The webinar link will be sent out to voting members ahead of Convention via email.
We will be meeting on Saturday, October 23 from 9 a.m.—3 p.m. The webinar will open at 8:30 a.m. to allow participants to get situated.
We will be hosting two Zoom training sessions in the week preceding Convention to familiarize participants with the format we will be using and procedures for voting. You are invited to join us for one of these two sessions. Learn more and register online.
Refunds and Registration
If you are a voting member who has already registered for convention, your ticket will be automatically converted into an online ticket and you will be refunded all your registration costs except the new fee of $15. Tickets for non-voting members and the Friday Night Gala will be refunded in full. Similarly, all hotel reservations will be automatically cancelled. Voting members who have not yet registered can do so any time between now and Convention online.
