On May 30, 2021, Christ Episcopal Church, Norwich, held its closing service. It’s historic building, constructed in the 1840s, and all of its contents has since come into the care of the Missionary Society. As you can imagine, the contents of such a large and historic building are vast. Thanks to the hard work of a small team of volunteers, led by ECCT’s Property Manager, Jon Heflin, the contents of the building have been sorted and categorized. These items will be made available for free to parishes, religious organizations, and non-profit organizations at a special “Free Market” to be held on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 9 AM–3 PM, at Christ Church, Norwich, 78 Washington Street, Norwich, CT 06360.
Items to be offered include liturgical supplies, including vestments, altar hangings, processional crosses, candlesticks, prayer books, hymnals, and more. In addition, there is a vast assortment of other items which may be of use to non-religious organizations, including chairs, tables, tableware, and children’s classroom furniture. There is also a large assortment of “Godly Play” supplies, including a desert box and a child-size altar table. Below you will find images of some of the items available. Photos of chalice/patens, processional crosses, and candlesticks available by request from Stacey Kohl.
Doors will open on the following schedule:
9–10:30 AM: Episcopal parishes, worshipping communities, and Intentional Episcopal Communities (IECs)
10 AM–12 PM: All other religious organizations, including other denominations and faiths
12–3 PM: Partner non-profit organizations as identified by ECCT. (contact Maggie Breen or Rachel Thomas to confirm your organization is on the list.)
Items will be available, “first come, first served” and must be taken on the day of the “free market.” Bring your own boxes, bags, trucks, and trailers!
*Please note: Items will be given to organizations only. No items will be available for private individuals.
