Hafāḍa, hitul, el pañal, nappies, la couche, pidguzok, diapers; no matter what you call them, they’re essential in helping keep babies warm, dry, and healthy. No wonder they’re such a popular Baby Shower gift!
The deacons of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut invite you to join us for a diocesan-wide Baby Shower for the Holy Family, in partnership with The Diaper Bank of Connecticut, this Advent Season.
Why diapers?
- According to The Diaper Bank website, 1 in 2 Connecticut families struggle to afford diapers to keep their babies clean, dry, and healthy.
- Most clients who frequent The Diaper Bank do not have laundry facilities and laundromats do not allow the washing of cloth diapers.
- Diapers can cost up to $100.00 per month.
- For those who have no choice but to buy them at local convenience stores, rather than big-box retailers, diapers can cost up to $150 or more.
- The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) do not cover the cost of diapers.
- Without an adequate supply of clean diapers, babies are more likely to suffer from diaper rash, urinary tract infections and other medical problems. In fact, it is one of the top reasons babies under the age of 1 go to the emergency room.
How can you participate?
- Bring an open or closed package of diapers to an ECCT parish during Advent.
- Make a financial gift to The Diaper Bank of CT via ECCT’s online giving page.
- Volunteer to transport donated diapers to a regional donation sites or to The Diaper Bank of CT. Contact The Ven. Don Burr for more information.
How can ECCT parishes participate?
- Put aside a pew or two for the Baby Shower and encourage people to “fill the pew with diapers” during Advent.
- Make arrangements to transport the donated diapers to an ECCT regional collection site early in 2026 or;
- serve as a regional collection site–we’re particularly in need of NE and SE region sites. Contact The Ven. Don Burr for more information.
