Deadline: May 1 and October 1
World leaders embraced a sweeping 15-year global plan of action to end poverty, reduce inequalities and protect the environment, known as the Sustainable Development Goals, at the opening of a United Nations special summit in 2015. Titled Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and contained in document A/70/L.1, the agreement on a set of 17 goals would come into effect in January 2016, replacing the Millennium Development Goals set in 2000.
In 2005, The Episcopal Church in Connecticut resolved to designate 0.7% of total annual spending to a Millennium Fund toward achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals by funding relevant mission projects. The Millennium Fund is now known as The Sustainable Development Fund and provides funding for mission projects that address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Fund varies from year to year but typically ranges from $40,000 – 45,000.
In 2016, ECCT decided to continue these grants, now overseen by the Companions in Mission Ministry Network.
Grant Selection Criteria
- The sponsoring group must be a parish or organization in good standing of the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut. Priority will be given to grant requests that identify significant commitment from the Connecticut parish or organization for the specific SDG program or initiative and that promote sustained mission relationships with parishes, dioceses and institutions beyond the Episcopal Church.
