By Greg Farr, Director for Archives & Record Management
Greetings to ALL! The Episcopal Church in Connecticut (ECCT) is proud to announce the launch of its new Archives Digital Portal, a major step forward in providing public access to the rich historical resources of the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut.
Designed for researchers, scholars, parishioners, and the general public, the ECCT Archives Digital Portal offers an intuitive and engaging online platform to explore the story of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut and its wider connections to national and global history. The site features a wide range of materials, including diocesan journals and media publications, parish histories, individual biographies, curated collections and exhibits, historical timelines, and a growing library of audio and visual content.
Unlike traditional repository websites that typically organize information using archival finding aids, the ECCT Archives Digital Portal organizes its online digital holdings through interrelated descriptive metadata. This enables users to conduct simple and advanced searches across collections, locate accurate and relevant information either by tag or keyword inquiry, and access full-text documents and other related digital formats with ease.
The current digital collections in this site reflect the broad and diverse narrative of ECCT’s history, and the portal is designed to grow over time. ECCT invites all parishes, ministries, and individuals to contribute digital materials to further expand the scope and richness of its online archive (please submit to gfarr@episcopalct.org).
As the Director for Archives & Record Management for the Episcopal Church in Connecticut, I am very excited to make this important resource available to the public. The ECCT Archives Digital Portal initiates the journey of not only preserving our history in a new way, but it also makes ECCT’s history widely accessible—and—a live to future generations to come.
The ECCT Archives Digital Portal is now live and available at https://ecct1archives.omeka.net or by the linking button found on the ECCT website, at the Resources\ECCT Archives landing page — https://www.episcopalct.org/archives/
