Are you a lay leader who feels called to lead worship? Is there a need in your parish for worship leaders? Join us to look at the process of leading Morning Prayer in your parish. We will discuss discerning your role in worship, some history of Morning Prayer, ways it is different from the Eucharist service, as well as explore some of the authorized resources you can utilize in crafting a Service of Morning Prayer. Then we will work our way through the MP service and look at how to customize parts according to season and the theme you may pick for the day. There will be opportunities to share examples from your parish and any ideas you have.
FACILITATORS: Jana Draper is a parishioner at St. James, Danbury, where she serves as worship leader, lector, healing minister and an occasional preacher. She took the Lay Preacher Training two years ago to discern if she was called to preach. When her parish was without a priest for a year, she took a turn preaching and found it very satisfying to help fill this need. One blessing resulting from lay preaching is the opportunity to discuss scripture with other lay preachers in our diocese. It is a wonderful community.
The Reverend Stacey Kohl serves as the Secretary of the Diocese & Convention for Episcopal Church in Connecticut. She has served in a variety of roles across ECCT including in communications & media and as a parish priest. She cares deeply for the local church and loves to use her varied (and sometimes strange) gifts and talents to help empower parishes to be about God’s mission in Connecticut and beyond.
