Bishop Jeff and I are overjoyed to announce the appointment of four Archdeacons. All began their terms on January 1, 2025, and are serving with me in the care and oversight of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut’s diaconate. Please join me in congratulating:
- The Venerable Ellen Adams, who serves the Northeast & Southeast Regions.
- The Venerable Donald F. Burr, II, who serves the Northwest & Southwest Regions.
- The Venerable Patricia Jackson, who serves as Chaplain for Retired Deacons.
- The Venerable Bonnie Matthews, who serves the North Central & South Central Regions.
It has long been a dream of mine to deepen our commitment to the diaconate in Connecticut and I believe we will be able to expand our understanding of, and possibilities for, ECCT’s diaconate in new and energetic ways by working with these faithful leaders in ministry.
If you think you, or someone you know, might be called to become a Deacon, please reach out to Canon Rebekah Hatch, any of our Archdeacons, or the Bishops’ office. To learn more about ECCT’s diaconate, check out our website.
Yours in Christ,
Bishop Laura J. Ahrens
What Does Venerable Mean?
You may have noticed that all of our newly appointed Archdeacons go by the title, “The Venerable.” In the Episcopal Church, this is the honorific title given to an Archdeacon. It is abbreviated “The Ven.”
