Dear People of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut,
Severe rain and flooding in our state and diocese have claimed two lives and caused significant damage to roads and property. Reports from parish leaders in the affected areas suggest some damage to buildings and many still unable to leave their residences.
Our prayers are with our siblings whose lives, homes and livelihoods have been affected by the flooding. We pray for those who have lost their lives: May light perpetual shine upon them, eternal rest be theirs, and may God comfort their families and friends. We pray for those who now must clean up and rebuild: May God give them strength and patience. We pray for all those who are helping — first responders, health care workers, utility and infrastructure workers: May God support them in their work and keep them safe.
If you’ve been affected by the flooding, and are experiencing an emergency, the State asks you to call 911. If you have non-emergency issues, please call 211 to get directed to the resources you need. If there is support your Parish Community needs from the staff at The Commons, please do not hesitate to be in touch. Property insurance claims can be reported directly to Church Insurance at 800-223-5705.
Yours in Faith,
The Rt. Rev. Jeffrey W. Mello, Bishop Diocesan
The Rt. Rev. Laura J. Ahrens, Bishop Suffragan
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved;”
God will help it when the morning dawns.
The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.
– From Psalm 46
