3. Revising ECCT Hiring Process

Proposed by:

The Mission Council

Resolution:

RESOLVED, That the 241st Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut deletes in its entirety the fifth paragraph of Resolution #3 to the 234th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut convened in 2018 and replaces it with the following, “Resolved, That Mission Council adopt and oversee a process by which searches to fill ECCT Staff positions will promote, to every extent possible, consideration of people of color as candidates for ECCT Staff positions.”

Explanation:

Implementing the original resolution proved infeasible. First, applicable law prohibits requiring candidates to provide the necessary information. Second, ECCT has, at times, been unable to identify enough candidates to meet the requirements notwithstanding diligent effort. This resolution provides greater flexibility in adopting a process that meets the goal of racial healing, justice, and reconciliation. The Mission Council has adopted, on an interim basis, the process attached to this resolution as Exhibit A. This resolution will allow Mission Council to revise the process as necessary to achieve the goal and remain compliant with applicable law in the future.

Requirements to Implement:

The Mission Council formed a Hiring Committee of 5 people, one of which serves as its convenor.
